May 22, Friday - The last working day in IPMS, Kiev

Hello!!

It is about 11:15 a.m. and fine weather and also well.

We returned back yesterday evening from two days drive around eastern area in Ukraine.

Danylenko car was comfortable during two days. Krajnikov and I were only accompanies.

We visited Forest, Park and Casles with plenty of green leaves and variety of flowers.

We stayed at the old style house of Kozac and had their specialite.

I got figures of Kozac man and woman with a pig, which is the symbol of prosperity.

Today I arrived at IPMS at 10:00 and discussed new data with other researcher.

I will have some experiment by TEM with Danyilenko, who is now preparering samples.

I will leave Kiev tomorrow morning to Koeln(Cologne), Germany by airplane.

During the evening I will take a bus to Reutte, Austria from Muenchen(Munich), Germany.

We will go to driving one night by Danylenko`s car on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hello!!

It is fine today. All is green and flowers are in blooming in Kiev.

This morning I went to the Post Office near Central Station to get my EMS parcel with Krajnikov.

It contains Tsukudani and Nori and other papers.

Therefore I could present them as my souvenir. Nori, Shincya and Tsukudani from are for Hirayu-san.

Powdered Tea and Tsukudani from Ami and Asari are for Danylenko and Krajnikov.

Today id the day for business. We are observing TEM by Danylenko. He is now preparing new samples.

Now is just a half time during this travel, about 3 weeks. I must go forward with reasonable high tension.

I called HIRAYU-san in Kyiv at about 18:00 in the evening. It was about 11:00 in Kyiv, because of the period of summer time now. At first I did not understand how to call him. Although I tried in vein by wrong number several times, finally I could fortunately call him directly from NIMS. Ukraine(international phone)'s country code is 380, therefore 0-010-380-44-276-26-43 is the solution; I could talk with him after 5 years since March 5, 2004. It is after a long time since we had a farewell party with him, his wife, Ms. Kurihara and Harada-kun. He said he has the gout(痛風患者, a patient [person, individual] with gout), but he did not do without drinking beer. It is an old custom or habit since in Germany. He told me to stay at his home without taking a hotel. But I answered that my colleague would book my hotel for me. Time for call was only several minutes but we hung up to meet in Kyiv after half a month.

He is keeping contact with Dr. G. Gergely and Dr. M. Menyhárd of Research Institute for Technical Physics and Materials Science, Budapest and Prof. V. Matolin and Dr. V. Nehasil in Charles University, Prague. He also visited Dr. J.P. Langeron and Dr. G. Lorang of Centre d'Etudes de Chimie Métallurgique, Paris and Prof. A. Kobylanski and Prof. M. Biscondi at École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Étienne to discuss topics about materials science and engineering. Afterward he developed their study as an international cooperative research since he communicated with A.V.K about 20 years ago. He could stay at NRIM in Tsukuba in 1996 sponsored by STA Fellowship to discuss and complete their paper [33]. At the same time, he organized a collaboration of low temperature neutron irradiation with RIAR since ICFRM held in Sendai in 1996 [2-4]. While leaving NIMS for his sabbatical stay at IPMS during 2003-2004 [5-9], our international project furthermore developed into trilateral one between RIAR, IPMS and NIMS. He would greatly like to appreciate the sponsorship of JSPS to make possible this collaboration between Ukraine, Russia and Japan. High temperature irradiation experiment in RIAR was performed by the contract for two years between RIAR and NIMS [3, 4]. V.P.C. and M.I.D would like to express their gratitude to the Visiting Fellowship by MEXT, which could invite them NIMS in 2003 and 2004 [37], respectively. FEB. 13, FRIDAY!!

今日は一部で不吉と言われている13日の金曜日でしたが、日経平均は
4営業日ぶりに反発、74円高。終わってみれば平々凡々な一日。


奇しくも来月3月13日も金曜ですが、変な迷信は気にする必要、全くなし！

IT WAS FRIDAY ON FEB. 13， THE DAY FOR PENSION AND THE DAY BEFORE ST. VALENTIN'S DAY. 
I FOUND THAT KOLJA MAILED ME WITH THE RESULT OF Mo-0.02B LAST NIGHT. 
SO I PREPARED MY LUNCH BOX WITH THE REST OF FOOD FOR Ms. K MADE BY Ms. S. 
I TOOK A TX TO TSUKUBA LEAVING MORIYA AT 10:51. I ENTERED NIMS BEFORE 11:30 BY BICYCLE. 

I HAD MY LUNCH BOX AFTER TAKING A DRUG FOR DM. THEN I WENT OUT TO THE BASEBALL GROUND. 
IT WAS REALLY AFTER A LONG SILENCE THAT I PLAYED A BASEBALL THERE. I THINK MAYBE FOR THE LONG TIME BEING SINCE SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I HAD A GOOD PERFORMANCE WITH THROWING A BALL AND BATTING. SO I PERSPIRED PLEASANTLY FEELING GOOD AND MY CLOTHES KEPT A SWEAT FOR A TIME BEING. 

IN THE AFTERNOON， I ASKED Mr. M TO SCAN MANUSCRIPTS TO PDF FILES. AFTER I PICKED UP PHOTOS OF Mo-B ALLOYS， I SENT THEM TO KOLJA WITH SOME MESSAGE. I PREPARED A PACKING FOR HOME DELIVERY SERVICE BY JP AND MOVED IT TO 1F. 

TAKING A SHOWER， I WENT OUT BY BUS TO TSUKUBA STATION AND CAUGHT A TX STARTING AT 18:22. I RETURNED HOME BEFORE 19:00 BY BICYCLE UNDER THE STRONG BUT WARM WIND. 

MEMORY OF TURKISH CARPET

多分同じ絨毯工場を見学しました。日本語ペラペラの大学の先生による絨毯作製工程、さらに、シルク製、ウール製、コットン製、混紡製などの大小いろいろ、各種絨毯の商品の説明が終わって、ほっとした時です。広げられた絨毯の上で、どうぞごゆっくり、ご自由にと、ツアー参加者全員にこのトルコチャイが皆に配られて、小生も早速いただいたのですが、ところが、さあ大変!!　お皿の上に配られていた角砂糖に気付かないまま、コップをお皿に戻してしまい、そのはずみでコップは倒れ、高価で大切な売り物である絨毯(10000トルコリラ程度)の上に、チャイを溢してしまいました。内心、さあ、大変!!　大慌てのはずでしたが、説明者の立派な髭を蓄えた先生が、すぐさま、心配いりません、綺麗に元通りになりますと安心させてくれました。絨毯屋のおじさん達が飛んできて、すぐに別室に引き上げて、15分後位に、素人目には判別はできないほどに、チャイのシミを取り除き、再びきれいになった絨毯を全員の前で、披露してくれました。熱湯でなく、冷水ですぐによく洗って、温風ファンで乾燥させるだけで、元に戻るということでした。後で、ガイドのエルカンさんが、こういうことはよくあるとのことでしたが、正直どうなるのかと動揺しました。いわゆる、サクラではないのですが、小生の不始末が結局、商品のPRに役立ったと思われます。その後、商談は一層盛り上がった状態となり、小生は絨毯工場の売り上げに貢献するのみならず、ちょっぴりですが、トルコとの文化交流に一役買った形となりました。そういうわけで、この絨毯工場での出来事、トルコ絨毯は一生忘れ難いものとなりました。以上、お後がよろしいようで、本当にあった話で、56円/1トルコリラでした(2009/1/15現在)。

Consultation and Investigation with
Science & Technology State-of-the-Art and
Materials Science Frontier

International Collaboration

We executed joint research studies both with IPMS (1) in Ukraine and RIAR (2) in Russia. Those projects are continuing up to now since about 20 years ago. Results of joint work were published in academic journals and international conferences. Human exchanges between each Institute were done many times and repeatedly. In addition, material irradiation experiment by the nuclear reactor-SM was executed by RIAR.

Results, Research and Experience

Excellent results of materials research about refractory metals such as Mo, Re and W, Al alloys, Fe alloys and Ti alloys were obtained for more than 30 years both in National Research Institute for Metals (NRIM) and National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). Superior results were announced in academic journals and at international conferences. A person in charge affirmatively participated in international conferences more than 20 times. He studied materials for Fusion Reactor as a Visiting Researcher by Science and Technology Agency, Japan in FACULTE DE SAINT-JEROME, UNIVERSITE D'AIX MARSEILLE III, Marseille, France in 1984. He also stayed at IPMS from March 2003 to March 2004, as a Cooperative Research Fellow by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He achieved scientific works of advanced materials, constructing friendly relations with trilateral cooperation between Japan, Ukraine and Russia. In order to utilize those special findings, experience and cooperation, MSF Laboratory was founded on April, 2006. It aims at investigation and consultation activities concerning new frontier science and technology, international cooperation and economic categories not only in trilateral relation but also in scales of the world-wide.

Recently he became a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Strength and Plasticity Physics in IPMS. He is willing to promote joint research on Microstructure and Mechanical Behavior of Advanced Materials more actively and effectively.

In May 2009, he visited IPMS for one week to discuss and collaborate with their new project and materials. Then he participeted to present a paper at the 17th Plansee Seminar held at Reutte/Tirol, Austria between May 25-29. He was able to have a pleasant time with old friends and to communicate the state-of -the-art results and informations of refractory materials.
