「俺は知らん」朝青龍、理事会聴取で一時居直る





 初場所中に泥酔暴力問題を起こした朝青龍の責任を追及した4日の日本相撲協会の理事会。
 2度の中断を挟み、強硬に「処分」を主張する役員と、「徹底調査」を求める親方衆が対立したという。二つの意見の応酬が、25回の優勝を誇った横綱を引退に追い込んだ。

 強硬派の筆頭は、外部役員で元警視総監の吉野準監事だった。「即刻、解雇すべきだ」といった趣旨の発言に、会議室の空気は一気に緊張感が高まった。これに元東京高検検事長の村山弘義理事も同調。新任の貴乃花理事や武蔵川理事長、二所ノ関、放駒の両理事も賛同した。
 こうした意見に対し、元理事長の北の湖、九重、友綱の3理事が一斉に反発した。「時津風部屋の力士死亡事件の時は何度も聴取を重ねた。相手があることでもあり、よく調べなければいけない」と主張。さらに、「弁明の機会を与えるべきだ」と求めた。吉野監事は「調べるならば、今すぐ呼べばいい」と応じた。
 強硬派の親方衆にも「当事者の話は聞くべきだ」との声があり、理事会を一時中断し、朝青龍と師匠の高砂親方の事情聴取が午後1時10分過ぎに始まった。横綱は「酔っていてよく覚えていない」「殴った覚えはない」と弁明した。吉野監事らが厳しく追及すると、「俺はそんなことは知らん」と居直る一幕もあった。
 午後2時半、最後の会議が始まる前、理事会は、朝青龍に引退の意向があることを確認した。だが、朝青龍の腹が固まらなかったため、「考える時間を与えては」との意見が出た。
 協議は多数決に移り、処分を求める親方5人に外部理事2人が加わり、「きょう、処分を出すべきだ」との意見が7人で、反対の5人を上回った。さらに、理事会の空気は、「解雇」よりも、協会の面目も保てる「引退」に傾いていった。
 この結果を受け、九重、二所ノ関の両親方らが朝青龍と高砂親方を説得し、この日の「引責引退」が決まった。
 実は、武蔵川理事長は役員改選前から、「自主的な引退」を、この問題の落としどころにしたかったといわれる。師匠の高砂親方には、「引退届は4日の午前10時まで待つ」と伝えたという。相撲協会が友綱理事を委員長とする調査委員会を設置したことで、「調査継続」の空気が流れたこともあり、高砂親方は「朝青龍引退」への説得を躊躇ちゅうちょしたと見られる。

 【北京=関泰晴】モンゴル外務省は5日、元横綱朝青龍の引退に関連して、冷静な対応を求める異例の声明を発表した。
 声明は「日本とモンゴルの両国関係に影響を与えることがないと信じる」と期待を示した上で、複雑な両国の国民感情に「理解」を示した。
 首都ウランバートルなどで、「外国人力士の活躍を嫌う日本相撲協会の圧力があった」として、日本への抗議活動を呼びかける動きがあったためだ。
 モンゴルでは、国民的英雄となった朝青龍を擁護する意見が多数派で、新聞各紙は5日、「朝青龍は強すぎるので引退に追い込まれた」などと対日批判を繰り広げている。

'Stop Driving' Recalled Toyotas, Official Says

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of millions of recalled Toyota vehicles with gas pedal problems to stop driving them and get them fixed. The warning comes amid reports of complaints in the U.S. and Japan about brake problems with the popular Prius hybrid and a U.S. government investigation of potential electrical problems in Toyota vehicles.
LaHood's warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House appropriations subcommittee on transportation. LaHood says his advice to owners is to "stop driving it. Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."
Toyota's most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals.
In addition, Toyota has been hit by over 100 complaints in the U.S. and Japan about brake problems with the Prius, the latest in a spate of quality troubles for the automaker as it grapples with massive global recalls.
LaHood said he plans to speak with Toyota President Akio Toyoda about the automaker's spate of recalls in the United States. LaHood said Wednesday he will call Toyoda in the coming days to make sure the Japanese automaker is aware of the government's concerns about safety issues with Toyota vehicles.
The secretary said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will conduct an investigation into electronic throttle control systems and potential electromagnetic interference in the nation's fleet of vehicles.
LaHood said the government "has the resources" to conduct the investigation.
The Japanese company's sales are being battered in the U.S. — Toyota's biggest market — after recalls of top-selling models to fix a gas pedal that can stick in the depressed position.
The new Prius gas-electric hybrid, which went on sale in Japan and the U.S. in May 2009, is not part of the recalls that extend to Europe and China, covering nearly 4.5 million vehicles.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received about 100 complaints involving the brakes of the new Prius model. Two involved crashes resulting in injuries.
Japan's Transport Ministry said Wednesday it has also received 14 complaints since July last year about brake problems with Toyota's new Prius hybrid.
The 14 complaints included an accident in July 2009, in which a Prius crashed head on into another car at an intersection. Transport Ministry official Masaya Ota said two people were slightly injured in the accident.
"The Prius driver in the accident told police that a brake did not work," Ota said. "Other Prius drivers also complained brakes were not so sharp." The complaints in Japan involve the new Prius model, and the vehicles were all made in Japan, he said.
The ministry ordered Toyota, the world's No. 1 automaker, to investigate the complaints. The other 13 cases happened from December to January 2010. Ota said the ministry has yet to receive a formal report on the complaints from Toyota.
Toyota spokeswoman Ririko Takeuchi said the company has received reports about the Prius complaints in North America and in Japan and was now looking into the matter.
Toyota shares plunged 5.7 percent to 3,400 yen ($38) with jittery investors dumping stocks in the wake of the Prius woes in the U.S. and Japan. The benchmark Nikkei stock index edged up just 0.3 percent to 10,404.33 as the drop in Toyota dampened sentiment.
"Investors were worried the latest trouble involving the Prius could get bigger. The problem could pose a bigger question on Toyota's quality and safety," said Kazuhiro Takahashi, market analyst at Daiwa Securities SMBC Co. Ltd.
Also Wednesday, the South Korean government said Toyota's local unit was recalling 444 vehicles over defects in gas pedals and floor mats.
The vehicles were made in North America, and the more than 19,000 Toyota vehicles imported from Japan weren't part of the recall, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said in a statement.
Toyota is facing growing criticism that it has not done enough to ensure the safety of its vehicles. LaHood told The Associated Press Tuesday that federal officials had to alert Toyota to the seriousness of the safety issues that eventually led to the recalls.
"They should have taken it seriously from the very beginning when we first started discussing it with them," he said. "Maybe they were a little safety deaf."
LaHood also said the U.S. government was considering civil penalties for Toyota for having dragged its feet on safety concerns.
Toyota Executive Vice President Shinichi Sasaki acknowledged Tuesday in a Nagoya, Japan, news conference that it took prodding from NHTSA officials for the company to decide on the U.S. recall.
Toyota has long prided itself on sterling vehicle quality and assembly line methods that empowered workers to ensure faultless production.
The latest recall, announced Jan. 21, over sticky gas pedals affects 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. alone.
Any serious problems emerging in the Prius, Toyota's flagship green car model, is certain to further tarnish its brand.





4.7 times for Entrance Examination in Official Universities


国公立大倍率、4.7倍=不景気で4年ぶり高水準






 文部科学省は3日、同日締め切られた国公立大入試2次試験の出願状況を発表した。同日午後3時までの志願者数は47万2152人。募集人員に対する倍率は4.7倍(前年同時刻4.6倍)で、この時点では4年ぶりの高水準となった。

内訳は国立82校が34万8520人で4.3倍(同4.2倍)、公立73校が12万3632人で6.4倍(同6.0倍)。不景気を反映し、学費が安く地元出身者に優遇措置もある公立大を中心に人気が高まった。
学部別で最も高いのは、国立は前期日程が東京芸大美術の14.4倍、後期が茨城大工(B)の61.2倍。公立は前期が北九州市立大地域創生学群の22.3倍、後期が岩手県立大ソフトウェア情報の70.9倍、中期が岡山県立大情報工の28.3倍だった。

大学入試センター試験の成績で門前払いする2段階選抜を予告していた国立38校119学部のうち、実施予定倍率を超過したのは32校88学部。公立では18校42学部のうち14校18学部が超えた。
確定志願者数は19日に発表される。2次試験は前期が25日、後期が3月12日に始まる。独自の日程で試験を行う国際教養大、新潟県立大、新見公立大は集計に含まれていない。

22nd Bike Tour between Moriya and Tsukuba

I started LOC City in Moriya at 10:20 and passed the 15 km point at 10:30 which was just after passing through Joso-Bridge along Kokai-River. Along Kokai-River I proceeded smoothly forward to northern direction to Kashima-Shrine where I took a short rest for 15 minutes from 10:50 there, which was at the 22.8 km point soon before Yamato=Bridge at 23 km point. I went through the Dame at Fukuoka of Kokai-River and went along Root 220 from Suwayama to Mase, moved to Banpaku-Park Station and arrived Mizuho Market at 11:40 safely and very smoothly. I stayed there for 20 minutes, drinking a bottled water and eating tomato, rice balls, peanuts, KIMUCHI, spinach, a lotus root [rhizome] and so on. Finally I could reach N* at 12:20 much pleasantly. It therefore took just 2 hours(1 hour and 25 minutes by Bike and 35 minutes for a break time) from Moriya to Tsukuba by Bike this morning. I took boiled egg, banana, two pieces of cheese and a small tip of baguette in my lunch box at room 5**. Afterwards, I took a bath at the welfare building alone but in luxury. I stayed to rearrange baggage walking to several warehouse up and down.

I 'm now here at Tsukuba Central Library. I got off N* at 15:15 and walked into Convention Hall where was opened Critical-Pass Poster Session by nurses and related people from various Hospitals. Then I moved to Kapio where Spring Flower Festival was opened.  But I did not enter it because it was not free and was necessary to pay some entrance fee. I got to Tsukuba Central Library at 15:40. It was no wind and comfortable to walk the Promenade in such a warm day, maybe temperature became over 15 degrees C, because I could pass this afternoon with only sweat and without coat for winter season.


I took a local TX train starting Tsukuba Station at 17:44 and returned back Moriya Station at 17:01. I went to LOC City on foot and spended 40 minutes for Body Massage by Chair、after watching window shopping and buying Banana and Bean Curd. At last I came back to home at 18:40. That is all of an episode of the 22nd Bike Tour between Moriya and Tsukuba.
